The Historical Museum of Tracadie dates back to 1968 when Sister Dorina Frigault, in order to mark the centennial of the arrival of the Religieuses Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph, opened a small museum and exhibited various antique objects related to the work of the nuns in Tracadie.

During the ten following years, the museum took shape, became incorporated and increased its collection. 

This museum is largely dedicated to the history of the care given to lepers.  It contains many other antique objects used to do domestic chores or to serve in religious ceremonies, as well as various First Nation artifacts discovered at Pointe-à-Tom, near Tracadie.  However, its specific vocation is to become a museum aimed at health care and more specifically its role in providing health care to the lepers.
